Bad Muskau“Welcome to Bad Muskau” The park and spa town of Bad Muskau is situated to the Northeast of the Free State of Saxony bordering Brandenburg and Poland. It lies embedded in the “Muskauer Faltenbogen” with the river Neisse of Lausitz in an idyllic valley. The town with its 4000 inhabitants received the town privilege in 1452. The name “Muskau” derives from the Sorbian word “Muzak” and means “wild man”, as the town’s coat of arms show. The small town was mainly developed and influenced by the Prince Pückler-Muskau. He created the famous German-Polish park of Muskau between 1815 and 1845. The 830 ha sized landscaped park is designed in English style. It enthuses its guests with its impressive diagonal and clear view, mature tree population and lively watercourses. The double bridge across the river Neisse connects the German side with the Polish park side. The park was added to the world cultural heritages of the UNESCO. The town of Bad Muskau also has a 185 year tradition as a spa resort. In 1823 the first bathing season was opened by the Prince of Pückler-Muskau. The spa resort status was approved in 1961, since then it bears the name “Bad Muskau”. Since 2005Bad Muskau is an officially recognised “place of moor bathing”. Thereby spa resort stays and spa holidays can be conducted in the therapeutic centre and moor bath of Bad Muskau. Also recommended is a ride on the historical 600-mm-light railway, the “Waldeisenbahn Muskau”, from Bad Muskau to Weißwasser and further on to Kromlau. Many cycling and hiking trails invite to outings into the surrounding areas.
